MUSIKPROTOKOLL – SOL

SOL by Kurt Hentschläger

SOL is a performance and audio-visual installation by Kurt Hentschläger, that took place at MusikProtokoll in Dom in Berg Graz in October 2018.

First as a performance, and then as a visitable installation, SOL mixes symbolic visual projections with a soundscape in a pitch black room with spatial audio.

The images, usually geometric forms and symbols, projected shortly and in bright white, get burned in your retina, and they reappear in as an after-image in your vision when the room gets pitch black again, until it gets replaced by the next image if you are looking a the LED screen.

The surround audio makes the space feel even bigger as you loose track of time while inside the installation. With an electronically soundtrack, sometimes but not always linked to the trigger of images in the screen, I think that SOL is a experience that can be enjoyed for 15 to 20 min, until the novelty of the concept wears of, the burned-in the retina images start to  get mixed and the spatial sound starts to produce a kind of dizzyness

I would have liked to see it in Performance mode, maybe the connection in between images and sound would have been stronger.

Anyway it was a nice experience that fitted the room and the festival
